POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN CYBERSECURITY
FRAMEWORK IN RURAL SCHOOLS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Cybersecurity Capacity Centre for Southern Africa (C3SA) is looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a National Research Foundation (NRF) funded project focusing on research on developing cybersecurity framework for rural and disadvantaged schools in South Africa.
The fellow will work on a National Research Foundation (NRF) funded project focusing on research on developing cybersecurity framework for rural and disadvantaged schools in South Africa. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher with a strong methodological and/or theoretical background in either the social sciences, or humanities – for example information systems, education, economics, political science, computer science, philosophy, law, geography, anthropology, and with an interest in research which matches one or more of the Centre’s dimensions of capacity.
C3SA is a regional centre linked with the Global Cybersecurity Capacity Centre based at Oxford University and is located in the Department of
Information Systems, University of Cape Town, South Africa. The Centre aims to understand and communicate how best to deliver effective cyber security across the world. One of the primary goals of the centre is to conduct reviews across Africa through deployment of the Cybersecurity Capacity Maturity Model (CCMM). The knowledge and experiences garnered will be made available to governments, communities and organisations to underpin an increase of their capacity in ways appropriate to ensuring a cyber space which can continue to grow and innovate
in support of well-being, human rights and prosperity for all.
Successful applicants will be based in the Department of Information Systems, University of Cape Town. These roles necessarily require
interdisciplinary collaboration with senior academics from the C3SA, Department of Education – University of Limpopo.
Academic/experience criteria:
Required
• Applicants must have completed a PhD in an area pertaining to Cybersecurity
• Strong skills in the planning, implementation, software-based analysis and write-up of primary field data.
• Demonstrated capacity to produce peer-reviewed research articles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and within a research team, and to meet deadlines.
Conditions of award:
• Applicants must have completed their doctoral degrees within the past 5 years and may not previously have held a full-time permanent academic post.
• No benefits or allowances are included in the Fellowship but the fellowship stipend is tax free.
• The successful candidate will be required to participate in activities associated with C3SA, and the Department of Information Systems.
• The successful applicant will be required to register as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cape Town immediately and will not be considered a UCT employee.
• The successful applicant will be required to comply with the university’s approved policies, procedures and practices for the postdoctoral
sector.
Value and tenure:
• The value of the fellowship is ZAR220,000 PA
Application requirements:
Applicants should submit (i) an application letter that includes a short description of their expertise and research
interests, and how these relate to the position, (ii) a CV including a publication list, iii) a copy of their PhD thesis and up to two published or
submitted papers, (iv) copies of academic transcripts and/or certificates, and (v) email addresses of at least two referees directly involved in their PhD and/or previous postdoctoral research.
Selection process:
• Only eligible and complete applications will be considered by the selection committee.
• Interviews are likely to take place in September 2022 and the successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible thereafter.
